A comic book app!
I don't want to shill for much except books on this blog, but I do have to give a shout out to this pretty neat iPhone app I found last night called Halftone. It turns photos into little comic book panels with full customization for background paper, captions and speech bubbles. Along with being a bookworm, I am also a total comic book nerd. Our family's combined comic book collection is probably our biggest monetary asset. That can be pretty sad or pretty cool, depending on how you look at it. I prefer cool.
The best part about this app is it's free over the Labor Day weekend. I can already see myself spending way too much time playing with this app when I should be watching Bumpy. Wait, did I put that in writing? Oops, I meant after the kid's in bed.
The cure for the clumsy child

Oh, and did I mention he's a weepy little drunk man? Bumpy can pull up on furniture, but he hasn't figure out how to cruise so the whole process is extremely frustrating. He's finally gotten the knack of falling back onto his butt (extra padding courtesy of cloth diapers). However, even though he can stick the landing 95% of the time, he still likes to cry if it's an especially hard one.
Of course there are still the accidents.

How the story-hour room is a death-trap (or how I miss the days of the immobile BBB)
The Bouncing Baby Bookworm is becoming more of a toddler every single day. Just when we thought we had the baby stuff down, life throws us a curveball, or should I say, hurls a whiney, constantly in motion, demanding pre-toddler?
At storytime this week, for the first time Bumpy didn't sit in my lap. No, he wanted to crawl around the room and try to pull himself up on random toddlers sitting on the floor. One child in particular did not appreciate the violation of his personal space.

The bookworm emerges
| Yummmm ... books nourish my soul AND my tummy! |
Today my child's inner bookworm emerged. Story time is not longer something I do for my enjoyment or to calm the baby for bed. He LIKES books and he told me so today.
This mama is beyond proud. Dreams of him winning top literary accolades and seeing his name atop the New York Times Bestsellers list seem not the least bit unrealistic now.
Bumpy has nearly mastered crawling this week. I was not prepared for this level of mobility, nor the speed at which he can scurry across the room. It thrills me, it scares me and I'm sure pretty sure once the novelty wears off (tomorrow?), it will sometimes annoy me.
I have read to my boy since the day he was born. So has his father (The Calm One). About six weeks ago, I started taking Bumpy to story time at the local library. Around that time, when I was reading to him, he started really looking at the pages. He began -- gasp -- paying attention when we read to him. He'd actually look at the pictures and text before trying to shred and devour the newspaper or chew on the board book pages.
It was amazing, the best milestone yet.
