The cure for the clumsy child

Fat lip? What fat lip?
Life for the Bouncing Bookworm has gotten quite a bit harder lately. As mentioned earlier, he's becoming more mobile but that doesn't mean he's good at getting around. In fact, he's horrible. He's like a little drunk man that wobbles on his feet, falls down hard and gets hurt constantly.

Oh, and did I mention he's a weepy little drunk man? Bumpy can pull up on furniture, but he hasn't figure out how to cruise so the whole process is extremely frustrating. He's finally gotten the knack of falling back onto his butt (extra padding courtesy of cloth diapers). However, even though he can stick the landing 95% of the time, he still likes to cry if it's an especially hard one.

Of course there are still the accidents.
We're not sure how this fat lip happened because he was crawling on the floor and suddenly he was screaming with a bloody mouth. I think he pitched forward, conked his head on the floor and rammed his lip into his sharp little baby shark teeth.

Anyway, when it happened he was yelling and his face went from pink to red at the speed of light. The Calm One tried to apply ice but that just made him scream louder ("No ice, you're killing me with the IIIIICCCE!!!")

After a few minutes that seemed like an eternity of kid wailin', I suggested to my husband that rocking and reading might be the answer. The Calm One retreated to the nursery and within a minute, a book was plucked from the stack and his low reading voice emanated from the room. The crying stopped within 30 seconds as Bumpy became engrossed in the board book.

Then like good (or really bad) parents, we took B to McDonald's for ice cream. Okay, we really took ourselves to McDonald's for ice cream (I recommend the Rolo McFlurry) . Parents need occasional treats, or else we'll start whinin' and wailin' too.

The extra reading session was a treat for Bumpy's soul, and the ice cream a treat for his tummy. It was the perfect combination to cure a clumsy baby's fat lip. Well, not really cure but at least it got him to forget about it!
